And now for something completely different...

Since I'm having a hard time finding a good new font site to review, I thought I'd look at some of my favourite fonts. And yes, I realise I'm breaking my own guidelines here by posting a fairly large image, but, I'll excuse myself just this once :)

These are some fonts I keep using, and always have installed on my computer. I'm not much for script fonts, as many script fonts look like many other script fonts. Not that there's anything wrong with them, but I'm talking about fonts I just adore here....

Fortunaschwein:

Fortunaschwein is, and has been, one of my favourite fonts for a very long time. I didn't realise it, but my version was outdated - upon looking at the font creator's site, I've discovered that there is now a complete version of it available. I've been using an old version without punctuation for years. I'm very pleased. I used this font in an old version of my website, with Alphonse Mucha inspired artwork, and it fit the role beautifully.

Depressionist Three:
http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=364
Sadly, Mr Fisk's font site seems to be AWOL, but this font is still alive and kicking. He did a series of these, Depressionist One, Two and Three. Three was the dirtiest version, and the upper and lower case letters are basically the same size, but have different angles and dirt effects on them, so mixing caps with lower case can result in some unique looking filthiness.

Ito:

I fell in love with this font when Bjork released Vespertine, as this font was used extensively in the booklet and package design. I can't really explain why I like it so much. I think it reminds me of old plotter fonts, but it's script, and that's what makes it so special.

Bebris:
http://www.geocities.com/rgfdfaq/tsrfonts.html
Something of a naughty font, as it's a clone of a commercial font put out by Emigre, but I think it's great. It has hints of uncial calligraphy, but it's not too old-world. I'm planning on using this font quite a lot in future - I just have to do some artwork that will live up to the typeface.

If anyone else would like to make a post like this, go right ahead. I thought it would be nice to add some content to the community that wasn't the same as always. No font ID, no requests, just talking about fonts that I like. I figure that sharing our oldies-but-goodies might be a nice change, instead of focusing on getting more new fonts and finding new sites.

Thank you so much! Fortunaschwein is a gorgeous font and just what I needed to fill in my collection.

I love the idea of "My Favorite Fonts" posts... I'm going to have to make one myself. :)

Fortunaschwein is so gorgeous... as you can tell [duh] I love it. I'm so thankful that the guy from anke-art gives it away for free. Makes you wonder how some of the big font companies can justify charging hundreds of dollars for less attractive fonts.

Please, go ahead and post about your faves... I'd be keen to see what fonts everyone else loves. :)

I always like and appreciate your posts... the only problem i have is that you dont take use of the lj cut. This post in particular with the huge image...but yeah besides that i think you are a great mod.

agreed on the "great mod" comments....

also, for others' reference, the "legit" version of Bebris is called "Democratica".

Awesome post, Roshi. I'll definitely have to jump on this bandwagon.
